CNY Malacca 2014

It's been so long since we made a trip back to Malacca to visit my relatives for Chinese New Year. Many a time, we grumble of the hassle to travel in just for a gathering during the festive season, admist the jam and foursome hours of bus ride.

But this year, we all made an effort to do it, partially also because my aunt is going back to Australia for a good 2 years before coming back. And that deliciously sinful piece of pork is made by my aunt.

Very awesome isn't it. And oh boy, was it yummilicious! 

Everyone contributed a little to the potluck. There was nasi lemak, satay, vegetables, springrolls, oyster omelette, bacon and asparagus and of course yusheng which I didn't managed to snap a shot of.

And the kids. They are a real bundle of joy(:

And its a trip of eating, eating and more eating. My cousin recommended this toast which was really interesting. Admist this egg dipped toast is a thick layer of peanut butter, with a melted slab of butter

And next up, is my favourite. Chicken rice balls. It is a childhood dish. Every single time I come back to Malacca, I simply have to indulge in this,until my uncle don't need to ask me what I want, and he'll know this is my pick :p

It's not exactly heavenly or to-die-for, but it's just my kind of comfort food, the kind of childhood taste.

And next is some food-shopping at the famous 三叔公

We never stay away from food, do we :p

And one of the drinks we bought from the store, which looks entirely like a shampoo bottle :p

And we proceeded back to eating at this restaurant my cousins recommended. It is famous for serving a range of coffee, representing 13 states' coffee. The interior is a really pretty rustic one, which totally feels like another of those cool concept cafes in Singapore

Apart from coffee, they are reknown for their calanthe laksa. It is a very popular dish among the malaysians, but it doesn't really appeal to us

But this, the vietnam styled wrapped otah, is seriously good stuff.

Drools. Crispy wrapped with evident crunches as you sink in to enjoy every morsel of this.

And thankfully for the bottles and bottles of snacks that my generous relatives prepared for us. Which kept my tummy from growling aloud, just 2 hours into the trip back.

Happy two

#throwback to last saturday, it marks 2 years from the day he first held my hand when we were crossing the road. Can't believe we started off just as simple as that. It's not the romantic over-the-top way of starting a new chapter, but sometimes, love can be just as simple as this (:

The boy doesn't like anything extra that he doesn't use. He only has one pair of shoes for work, one pair for non work wear and one pair of slippers! Hehe so this year I tried baking shortcakes using my aunt's recipe. My first attempt at 11pm and plus I was so sleepy i missed some steps, so the cookies were not up to par. But i guess it's acceptable :p

Weather was kind to us and we had a little picnic at botanic gardens. The boy had to be involved in a recruitment drive that morning, a result of our upcoming HK trip and so he only brought along biscuits. And oh boy, were the little birds there happy. And it's where we went through the stack of HDB documents to select the beginning to the next chapter (:

For dinner, we were supposed to head to this little place the boy recommended, but that ended up only a place for tea and pastries :/ and the other restaurants were packed to the brim with its Saturday crowd. But it must have been a good thing as this little hideout caught our attention while roaming along baghad streets for some tummy food

It was fun to be welcomed with the airplane curtains, which really gives me the feeling of being onboard an actual aircraft!

And pretend that you are in your private jet with an exclusive chef. Absolutely love it that we were able to skip the crowded restaurants and dine with gentle music in our own "me" time. This place is rather small and there were only 1-2 other tables that were occupied while we were there

Absolutely love the silky smooth udon noodles that they serve. Have never eaten anything sooooo good(:

And I've been slurping up the noodles non stop 

And serving up is this lobster salad mango roll with bonito rice. It's amazingly good and larger than the images from the menu 

And that's the feast of our 2nd anniversary (: and oh boy we have over ordered. Thanks to me who set my eyes on many dishes, and it doesn't help that my sweetheart has a super small appetite :x and greedy me finisheeeeeed all the food!

Five and Dime with G.I Jo

Hello girls,

It's my first post to my blog using my new iPad and the blogger app today! Yay to another blog post up!

It's a cafe hopping post today, and we have settled on the much talked about Five and Dime cafe that sits at Rivervalley. With the help of directions savvy G and Jo's map app, we managed to walk there from somerset mrt after a good 15-20mins, including missing the green man indicator to cross the road while discussing G's outfit. #bimbotothemax

Thanks G for the post. Can you spot a glimpse of the green layering necklace from the gorgeous Cendrio gem set in store. 

Kicking off our meet up which G's egg Benny's set. 

And the waffles topped with the common chocolate and vanilla flavored ice cream. TBH, there was nothin fantastic about it

And a sneaky shot by yours truly of my girls also snapping away to accommodate my #instaaddict photo taking addition :p

New in store was this chocolate golden lava cake which caught G's eye

And there it is, the salty gold oozing out admist it's sweet moist cave. A pretty interesting dish I must say, but nothing really fantastic and worth 12SGD. I really still kinda prefer Bakerzin's cake or Carpenter and Cook's pastry (:

The full array of our desserts including the new Milo panna cotta that's pretty cold and creamy. About too gelat if you are gonna have it all to yourself 

And here's our patterned theme outfit shot together and I finally get to wear my grandma-worthy-leopard-preen super comfy pants (: cheers to our 7 years of friendship and counting!

An ootd after 1000 failed shots cos the granny pants were really unkind to me for my ootds. And my pretty Jo.

Can't wait for the next outfit themed cafe hopping session with my girls.
