Happy mid autumn everyone!

Had a steamboat gathering at the bf's place, and oh boy, was my tummy filled of food.
*rubs belly*

Apart from the traditional flavours of Pandan, lotus and red bean from Yuen Fatt, I'm loving the creative Avocardo white chocolate and durian mochi durian at the boy's place!

oh dear, I can feel myself getting heavier already!

Brown favourites- Yuen Fatt mooncakes

If you would have guessed, yes it's nearing the luminous period of the year, where we gather over lanterns and mooncakes. Okay, perhaps  the lanterns portion being a couple of years back.

Having this bi-annual backorder, the first this year being for our favourite public holiday- Chinese New Year, we know you can't wait for the 2nd, since we have already received enquiries on when orders can be placed(;

In the midst of the enticing battle of mooncake flavours amongst the top tiered restaurants, we like to trickle down to the 3 main traditional flavours.

Pandan, lotus and red bean,
with the options of with/without yolk.

Each box comes with 3 pcs of mooncakes as seen above
Mooncakes are all handmade without preservatives and it is recommended to eat it within 1week.
But we know you love them so much that you can keep them in the freezer for up to 1 month. Just remember to toast it up for that shiok-ness.

We like ours heated up before tucking in.

We are sorry we have to recycle the photos from the past few preorders here and here as there simply isn't sufficient time for us to get extra boxes in for this year's shoot.

The traditional bakery-Yuen Fatt has been swarmed with orders and we are forced to bring forward the order and collection dates in order to ensure we get a box of the brown goodies.

Due to increasing demand, we can't guarantee that all orders will be fulfilled.
But we will try our utmost best to fulfill your orders if payment has been made by Friday, 31July'15.

Collection of the mooncakes will be on Sunday, 13 Sept'15 at the below locations:
Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio and Bugis.
Timing will be further advised

In the event that we are unable to get our hands on the mooncakes, refunds will be processed accordingly.

For any enquiries, please email to eatloveshoot@gmail.com

For orders, please fill in the order form here
Orders will be replied with payment details upon receiving.

CNY Pineapple tart bakes and Yuen Fatt mooncakes

Writing this post before preparing for the reunion dinner on 除夕。Finally the festive season to justify your sinful eats has arrived, with the perfect reason for every gathering!

A little snapshot of all the pineapple tarts that we have baked this year(:
It's no joke baking thousands of these little ones.

Love full of pineapple tarts

And yes, I pretty much burnt my valentine's day with the boy churning out these golden balls.

I guess this would be one of the most memorable valentine's day!(: We killed 2 entire Saturdays for pineapple tarts making (incl valentine's), with the poor boy having no sleep at all and jetting off to a week of business trip soon after.

The poor boy told me he was so sleepy he fell asleep twice while packing in the tarts into the bottles.

Managed to sneak out for a quick dinner for Valentine's day as I had to drop off TDJ stocks at Kissjane Cityhall. Else Valentine's day dinner would just have been at the coffeeshop downstairs.

But it was really sad that it was also the first time we experienced such horrible Mookata. We're sorry, but it was the worst we have tasted ):

Stubbornly insisting to doll up even though it was a short while out. It's valentine's day, I can dress up right!(:

#眼袋couple

Our customer J who loves our pineapple tarts so much. Thanks sweet J, your love for it really keeps us going. Honestly selling of pineapple tarts is absolutely not lucrative, with the mass amount of time and effort needed for that little bit of income, I could well just focus on TDJ.

But it's quality time with the boyfriend that makes things all better. And sweet appreciation for our tarts(:

And J's reaction when I told her the bf contemplated not to sell next year, but well I convinced him to do so, except that we have to cut off orders earlier and make proper planning for the order taking!

But it seems all worth it when our customers love them, with one of my brother's colleagues ordering 8 bottles at one shot after trying them. Thanks for loving our golden treats!

A big thank you for all of you who have ordered from us! We are sorry we had to cancel some orders and reject others. We will be opening up the orders earlier nx year!(:

What else did you get for your CNY festive goodies stash?

We also had the yummy Yuen Fatt mooncakes for our nibbles(:

CNY tummy treats: Yuen Fatt Mooncakes Preorder opened!(:

Hello all (:

CNY is coming in another month or so and are you fretting on what to gift or what to treat your guests for the festive season?

If you fancy something different from the mass markets, and you are a fan of butter and less sweet delicacies, we have the perfect tummy treat to recommend.

Does this look familiar? We had the previous preorder for these yummy mooncakes here and we know you love them! Due to overwhelming requests to have them back again for CNY, we are now opening slots for the preorder of these mooncakes.

Some feedbacks from our customers as below(:

Feedback from customer Y

Feedback from customer N

These shanghainese mooncakes are lovingly made by a family-run bakery, Yuen Fatt Biskuit, using top quality butter  and we love it's crumbly & melt-in-your-mouth texture.

It was a tough fight last year trying to get our orders in for the Mid autumn as the orders were submitted too late. During the festive season, the bakery has 30k orders which works out to about 100k mooncakes to bake considering they still have to bake for open door sales where the queue easily stretches to 4 store lengths even before they are open for busines.

Above is a box of mixed flavours with yolk.

From left to right, the flavours are:

Red bean, Pandan and lotus
More details and images in this blogpost

Yuen Fatt mooncakes order list- Each box consist of 3 pcs

1 pc Pandan (our favourite)
1 pc Lotus paste

*Mooncakes can be kept in the fridge and it is best advised to be eaten within 1-2 weeks as there are no preservatives added.

If you cannot decide which flavour to pick, or it's the first time you are trying, go for the box of mix and try all of them!

To place orders

Please send your orders to eatloveshoot@gmail.com

Preorder for these tummy treats will close by 31 Jan'15 or when our slots are full, whichever earlier.

Yuen Fatt Mooncake delivery for Mid-Autumn

This weekend was swamped with butter and delivery.

It was a massive delivery exercise for these mooncakes to be passed to their anxious owners(:

Feedback from customer Y

Feedback from N

We have received feedback from very interested customers who are requesting for more Yuen Fatt mooncakes to be brought in after yesterday's delivery. Some even finished one box on their own(:

So here's the catch! We will try to contact the bakery, likely by mid September and try to have the mooncakes brought in as soon as possible. We will accept the batch of orders if we have a minimum of 20 boxes.

We already have 910/20 orders placed as of 1Sept'14 for the new batch.

Update as of 3rd Sept'14
We have 25 orders to date, out of our maximum slots of 35 for this final batch before CNY.
25/35

Some details to note while fufilling the eager tummies.
1. Packaging (boxes and bags) may differ according to bakery's discretion.

2. There might be slight dents on the mooncake boxes due to the transportation of the mooncakes into Singapore. We are unable to guarantee pristine condition for the mooncakes but will try our best to ensure they reach you in the best condition.

3. Collection date of the mooncakes has not been confirmed yet--> Likely 21/28 Sept'14

If all seems good to you, do email and indicate the number of boxes you will be keen in getting to eatloveshoot@gmail.com and we will revert with more details once the bakery confirms acceptance of orders.

Details of the variations of mooncakes and more photos are available here

Yuen Fatt mooncakes: Traditional handmade shanghainese mooncake

I'm no fan of mooncakes for the mid-autumn festival. But this changed when the bf brought me these oval shaped goodies last year.

#goodthingsmustshare

How good can this be, I thought. I posted this on instagram and received many comments on how good this is and how fantastic it will taste when it is being toasted in the oven.

Check out the golden hues of these goodies

It's not uncommon to find durian, XO, champagne, chocolate flavoured mooncakes during the festival. I'm no fan of quirky flavours, but this pandan flavoured, which is also the signature flavour of the traditional bakery appealed to my tastebuds

A few reasons why I don't like most mooncakes is that, the crust is usually thick and tasteless, and the fillings being excessively sweet.  But these traditionally handmade mooncakes from Yuen Fatt, changes my opinions.

The buttery crust crumbles upon cutting, evident of the phrase melts-in-your-mouth, or 入口即化。
The fillings have a perfect mix of savoury, sweet and fragrant. Perfect for my picky tastebuds

The bakery offers a selection of

1. Pandan (highly reommended)
2. Lotus paste
3. Red bean

And the best thing is you can choose a box of mixed flavours.

For egg yolk lovers, they also have the golden option for you.

It was a tough fight last year trying to get our orders as they were submitted too late. During the festive season, Yuen Fatt has 30k orders which works out to about 100k mooncakes to bake considering they still have to bake for open door sales! It's a small family business and to complete the overwhelming orders during this festival, the staff bakes daily till 2-3am to satisfy the tummies of their mooncake's fans. Top quality butter is used in these shanghainese mooncakes and they are hand-kneaded to achieve the crumbly & melt-in-your-mouth texture.

With the mooncakes handmade and baked freshly, there is no need to add preservatives or too much sugar to prolong the shelf life of these goodies. Put them into the fridge and you can extend the shelf life for a week.

And the best thing is, no pork or lard is used too

Price list for Yuen Fatt mooncakes ( one box comes in 3 pcs)
Without yolk  $23
With one yolk $26

Available flavours

1. All Pandan (my pick)
2. All Lotus paste
3. All Red bean
4. Mix ( 1 pandan, 1 lotus, 1 redbean)

**Above details restructured on 1Sept'14

A few readers have asked whether they should order it with the yolk. I would recommend it without as the paste is not too sweet and having the salted yolk with it will overwhelm the flavour

Do send in your orders to eatloveshoot@gmail.com by 7th July'14 if you would like it in time for Mid-Autumn Festival(:
