Bangkok 2015 18/9-24/9 Day 4 Playhaus hotel

Hello! I'm finally back with the next post! As I was sorting out the photos and doing the edits, I finally realise that we really reallyyyyy ate ALOT! Haha maybe cos there's nothing to shoot apart from food? hehe

When we head to Bkk for many days, we like to hotel hop and try the different hotels so it wouldn't seem so boring!

After the first part of the trip at Shanghai Mansion, we decided to try Playhaus Thonglor.
It's a quaint little boutique hotel with very interesting furnishings.

It is a 10-15min walk to the Thonglor BTS station and we had to get directions from the reception.

The lobby features a very Victorian-ish and Queen Elizabeth era setting with it's furniture, feathers and gold/brass metals.

Definitely not the common lobby around, though it is much much smaller than the more popular hotels like Glow Pratunam/ Amari Watergate.

Because the room charge is almost half of that, ~50- 60 SGD per night after taxes.

Love all the brass and vintage elements they used to design this room.
It gives the room a very lovely European touch, and I think this is the Mary Poppins room or something.

They have a different theme room in each level if I'm not wrong.

They also treat you with Elle Spa series toiletries during your stay with them.

A very meticulous backdrop painting that welcomes you when you step into the room.
A very refreshing change for a hotel stay indeed.

But the rooms were really abit smaller for my liking.

Day 4 was pretty boring for us as we took quite long to check out from Shanghai mansion and it was a huge terror trying to get a cab to this hotel. No taxis would take the ride for a meter and we had to settle the trip for 300baht, coupled with immense traffic jam ( a total journey of ~45mins, I think I can already reach the airport) , which probably justifies the 300baht.

We only managed to check into Playhaus Thonglor at 4PM or so, and had a hard time trying to find food, because it was a Monday and the streets were so empty!):

It was a huge disappointment as I was hoping to have some streetfood.
After chatting with the staff, we learnt that every Monday, it was a so-called street-cart free day where the street carts are not supposed to be out doing businesses along the roads.

But if you are lucky, you may just find a handful that breaks the rules (:

Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year everyone!
Sorry I have been neglecting this space and haven't been updating the BKK post ):
Have been busy with work especially for the pre cny launches.

Will try to push to complete the posts for BKK soon! So many photos to edit!
Anyway, one reasons why I love CNY is the abundance of food, and YES, everyone's favourite abalone! Or rather, my favourite!

Love the broth to max, and with the CNY ingredients, I get to pamper myself with a super luxurious practically instant-mee style.

Except that I'm more picky with the method of cooking. This simple dish is made more troublesome.

Recipe.

For one person, I take 1.5 bundles of mee sua for cooking.

1. Cook mee sua separately in water so the taste doesn't damage the essence of the abalone broth.
2. Drain mee sua and put separately in a bowl once it is al-dente (or the texture that you want)
3.Bring to boil about 1 cup of water to half can/ 3/4 can of abalone broth.
4. Add in ingredients (3 prawns and 2 scallops for me- Raw ingredients left from the steamboat on CNY eve)
5. Once everything is cooked, throw back mee sua again to absorb the flavours from the ingredients and broth
6. AND you are now ready to tuck into the most luxurious instant mee sua (:

So love love this! Hope you love it too!
